Doesn't look like a porsche part that I recognize.

Can you flip it over and take another pic - and capture the thing with the wires that is hidden in this picture?

Are there mounting holes in it somewhere?

Looks like there is a Mitsubishi logo, 3 Diamonds pointing towards each other, on the grey metal part where wires connect..

Good eye on the mitsubishi logo.
- I am guessing that is some sort of diode/rectifier w/ integral heat sink?
can you hit it with a DMM (both directions) to see if it is open/shorted.
That would seal it.
No clue as to the application beyond that however.

Looks like the shorted coil in the ox tank on Apollo 13.
