Help, -- purpose of wires?
The car is an '87 Carrera Cabrio in good unmolested condition. The photo shows a pair of unconnected wires, one with brown with white stripes and with blade type connector (un-insulated), and one red with black stripes also with blade type connector (insulated with black tape), located ahead of the fuel filter. The wires exit part of the original wiring harness. My guess is it would have been part of the harness for Targa or coop rear window wiper or defog. But wires are thin and not designed to carry higher amps.

The wire colors match with the Targa rear window wiper circuit. As you mentioned, these 2 could have been pre-populated into the main generic harness. They would have been fed by a switch on the inst panel, and would have made their way to the wiper harness and then the rear deck lid.
Let me know if you're curious and want pics (PM if I miss the request)
