Ignition cut out

Has anyone experienced what I call an ignition cutout on a 996? I have 1999 996 C4 that occasionally will stall out. I think it is an ignition short because when it occurs the interior lights come on, and the instrument panel resets. Once I pull the car over turn the key off and back on it starts right back up. I haven't been able to reproduce the issue with any consistency but it does seem to be getting more prevalent.

Any advice/ opinion is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
