Oil pipe to chain tensioner leaks
The oil pipe feeding th chain tensioner leaks at the supply end. I'm told this is a common junction for leaks. So, I removed it this morning, cleaned it and replaced. Of course, it leaks more!
My question is this: is replacing the pipe sufficient? Also, I noticed PP has a bracket to secure the pipe to the tensioner cover. This a recommended addition? Thanks, Greg

Did you replace it with a new line? Mine was cracked at the fitting and hardly noticeable. I was told that bracket was added after 1984 to prevent the line from cracking do to vibration.

No, I haven't replaced it yet. I'm going to, but thought I'd ask to ensure I get everything I need first time. My car doesn't have the bracket.

The brackets were added by the factory sometime in the 87 or 88 model year. (I have an early 87 that didn't have the brackets when I got the car.) I've since added them. The brackets were added by the factory to minimize breakage from vibration.
For the right side you will also need the updated oil line to go with the bracket. Unfortunately you'll have to remove the compressor, compressor bracket and the muffler to do this. Pelican has all of the parts that you'll need. rbertels 87 Coupe |
