Steve McQueen's 911S-found ref. to it seling for over $1 million
I looked through the auction listing and can't see a car worth a million
1970 Porsche 911S Steve McQueen Le Mans Movie Car | Monterey 2011 | RM Sotheby's but anyway it mentions that an LA attorney kept it for 30 years. Does anyone know who that was, what year he bought it and what he paid? I met Chad McQueen, Steve's son in Malibu but he was also driving a 911 though it couldn't have been the same car, more of a project car. I know they had an auction of some of McQueen related cars (including his XKSS) in Nevada some decades ago but I don't remember a 911S being in that auction. Thanks for any tips--I'm always following celebrity cars.... |

That being the car from the opening credits of the Le Mans movie makes it pretty special , having been owned by McQueen and all. I think he had 2 very similar cars. One a 69 and one a '70?? It's all very factual and easy to find. Might be hard to find 1.5 million though.

They had the car at the DVD release party Anaheim for the movie Le Mans. (I think that might have also been the "40th anniversary of the 911 event.) It was obviously a "driver" as the grill was fairly dinged up.

Steve's car at Anaheim was his personal one and still owned by the family. 69S and its in great original condition.
The car that sold for big money at the RM Auction in Monterey, was the Le Mans movie car. Both are slate gray

I just want to know what McQueen sold it for or subsequent owners before it became $$
I bet McQueen sold it for close to what he bought it for;
I don't think the McQueen Effect had been observed yet (in much later times his Lusso went for double or more what it was worth when it came up for auction all restored). Or what the fellow who sold it to the attorney sold it for or what the attorney advertised it for? By that time I think the McQueen Effect was taking hold, so the one who had it 30 years no doubt got the benefit |

Windshield wipers look wrong. Not that this will ever be rained upon again.
