Ideal Vintage 2.0 Hot Rod?

Ok - What would be your ideal 69 2.0 hot rod IF you could only do period mods that were readily available to your average enthusiast in 1969, e.g., no "R" body kits.

Let's see.... in '69 they had barely a clue about aerodynamics on race cars (so no spoilers, tails or air dams), very little understanding of tire dynamics and limited assembly technology (scratch really wide tires, slicks and radials, as well as the associated fendor flares). So it was basically strip the car, bolt in a 2 or 4 point roll bar, put in the "cold" spark plugs and go racing.

My understanding is that most "sedan" race cars of the late 60's -- even the state of the art, professionally run versions -- had similar levels of prep to the SCCA's current IT classes. It would make the "Stock based" Speed GT rules seem pretty radical. In April 1968, R&T ran and piece on the preparation Daytona GT class winner and the modifications list was as follows:

1 stock 911S (swb) and add...
* Rollbar
* 6 in mag wheels
* Goodyear racing tires
* competition brake pads
* relocating the seat belt anchers
* removing the 75 lb weight from the front bumper
* removing the gasoline heater
* Replacing the 16 gallon gas tank with a 26 gallon gas tank
* Add a cold air duct to the cockpit
* Add padding to the drivers door
* Add an LSD to the transaxle
* Replace the 5th gear with a shorter version.
* Install a Bursch exhaust system
* Lower the car by about 1 inch
* Add an oil overflow catch tank.

Note that they didn't even bother to remove the undercoating! The resulting car would have looked something line this:

Man - How cool would it be to be able to take your year old 996, slap on some racing pads, a roll bar and racing tires, adjust the suspension and go run Daytona, or Le Mans or Nurburgring...

Those old timers had it great...
