C2 Decklid Install into '77 911S
 

I've read through quite a few posts in the search and haven't really found an answer so I figured I'd ask.

When attempting to install my C2 Deck lid on my '77 911s the right side always scrapes on shutting it. It's still in process of install but using spacers or not for height the left side (with hood shock) seems fine but the right side seems as if it's closing in way to closely.

I've tried to adjust it anyway I know how with no good results.

My questions are as follows:
1) Any general guidelines for installation? (I.e. does one side need a spacer vs. the other? I figured this is probably not an answerable question as it's probably per car.)

2) Does anything in the engine compartment need to be relocated (aside from removing the condenser) to enable this install?

I'm not really concerned with the wiring and all so I'll let that be until it's installed.

If anyone in the Columbus OH area cares to come out and can help me get it installed you can have my old deckled (w/ fiberglass turbo tail, it's not in perfect condition but my mechanic/body shop said it could be reconditioned fairly easily) for your troubles.

I'm in a driving mood and I really want to get this fixed before snow starts coming down.

In what vector is it scraping? I've seen engine lids scrape a few different ways. If it's scraping at the very top, you may need to adjust the lid "outwards" ie pull it away from the car along the plane of the hinge mounting. If it's scraping on the side, you may need to do the same thing, but inwards slightly on the other side. Or, tweak the hinges some more. Who/How were your hinges modified?

It always has a great fit on the sides. It's just the top, but the top right. The left side of the top is spaced appropriately.

I bought it off of jriera on the board who had the arms already modified to fit his car of a similiar year.

It seems as if the right hinge needs to come back toward the rear of the car a bit but I can't for the life of me get it to move any past where it's currently hanging out at.

You have a little play in the hinge mount points on the car and the tail but playing with that leeway never seems to get me close enough to a flush mount.

There isn't any real adjustment in the hinge mounts; sounds like you'll need to munge the right hinge open a bit, ie open the "C" shape a little.

I'll try giving that a go then. Hopefully it will work out.

Remove the forward bolt on the right side hinge. Loosen the rear one. Insert two washers between the hinge and the decklid, and reinstall the bolt, then tighten the rear one.

The reason it fits on the left and not the right, is because the force of the shock is holding the left side up enough to clear. When I installed the C2 lid on my car, I built a bracket in the right side to add a hood shock on the right. The heavier decklid needs the even pressure on both sides, or it will cause the problem you're having. But you shouild be able to partly compensate with the shims. (washers)
