Door speaker mounting
I'm upgrading my door speakers from some cheesy aftermarket ones to 6.5" ones (with a simple black grill, not a gaudy one). I purchased the speaker spacers from a fellow Pelicaner to get a solid, flat mounting surface on the door.
Do most folks mount the speakers on top of the inner door panel or just the speaker grills? It seems it would be easier to surface mount them with the door panel between the speaker and the spacer.

I did the same install. I did surface-mount the speakers on top of the door panel (door panel gets sandwiched between the speaker and the spacer).

I'm working on my doors (lots of misc fixes) and rather than work the speaker in/out each time, I attached it to the door itself, so that I could more easily remove the card. I think it is one of those six of one, half dozen the other things. My passenger side is mounted on the card and there is no perceivable difference until you take the door card off.
