Won't fire after starter and ignition switch replacemen?

I have a '77 911S in which the ignition switch broke allowing the starter to stay engaged while driving. I bought a Bosch replacement starter, changed it, and wired it back up correctly with the ignition wire to the top spade terminal on the solenoid. I removed the broken ignition switch and installed a new one. Everything went fine except for struggling with that top screw

The car spins over fine. I pulled the wire to the distributor on the initial test. Hooked that back up and went to fire the motor. It attempted to fire once and the rest was just just the starter spinning. I pulled the airbox cover and checked that the injectors were primed, They were.

The car seems to get a hiccup like it wants to fire when i back off the starter with the key. This is my only symptom I have to go by right now.

Any ideas? Frustrated and taking a break...

My father was testing the new switch and used a screw driver to turn the mechanism to see if the spring loaded part was working. It was. He handed the part to me to install and I didn't think about the rotation until later. The new part has a cross instead of a single slot. If it's off a 1/4 turn would it change the ignition circuit?

The car has no dash lights when the key is in 12 o'clock position. Works as normal in the 1st position, 2nd position, and the starter engages and springs back like it should so I guess that rules out my question.

Try this test. Unplug the air flow sensor so the fuel pump runs when the ignition is turned on (or remove the fuel pump relay and jump sockets 30 and 87a.) Does the engine start now?

My thought is that the pump isn't running during the start circuit as it should.

Unplugged the air sensor plate and the car started, But as soon as I let off the key it died. I tried 3 times but decided not to potentially flood the engine.

Tried it again and I guess the fuel system wasn't primed as well as I thought. It took some feathering of the throttle to keep it running for a few seconds but now it purrs at idle and restarts like it should.
