Cruise Control Clutch Switch
I have an 89 cab with a G50. I recently had the clutch cylinders replaced, clutch works great but the cruise is not working. I can pull up on the clutch just a bit and that gets it working. From what I have read it seems that the clutch switch is not releasing completely. I think I can adjust the switch but wanted to see if the clutch should be traveling a bit higher and is it possible to adjust it as such.

If your clutch isn't coming all the way back up, you might try bleeding the slave cylinder. There is no adjustment for how far it comes towards the driver. As for the cruise control switch, I'm not sure if it can be adjusted. All I know is that it's in the tunnel near the pedal cluster and a real PITA to access.

Actually there is a screw called the servo spring adjuster that can be adjusted in the pedal cluster. According to Bentley it is supposed to assist in the depression of the clutch or if adjusted the other way, help return the pedal. It's basically a screw or bolt with a cam/lobe on it that rests against the pedal return spring. But to me, it was difficult to get to and to make and feel accurate adjustments.
The switch however is mounted on an "L" bracket in the tunnel and has slotted screw holes for fwd and rear-ward adjustment - but this is difficult to access like atc_marty said.

Also, the lever arm of the switc, the part that contacts the clutch pedal, can get bent as well. Check that if possible before digging down n the tunnel.
There are ways to confirm your diagnosis of possible clutch switch issue. In the Bentley manual there are steps listed to check switch operation with a multimeter at the cruise control module in the trunk. Somewhat easier to get to....to confirm or rule out your initial diagnosis. If you don't have the Bentley we can tell you what it says. |

I can get he cruise to work if I pull up on the clutch pedal. There seems to be just a little play at the top but it's not smooth it's like a little indent but it only moves maybe a 1/4 inch but that must be just enough to release the switch. I have not had a chance to check to see if I can move or tweak the switch but it seems that may be the easiest solution.

Sorry, I should have read further back on the thread.
If you can, see if you can see the switch lever - whether it is straight or bent. If you can't see it or get to it, then this is what you are looking for. Some disassembly is required. These are from my 1985. I am not positive that you have the exact same setup. ![]() ![]() |
