Help ! How to open CV joint on a 1986 Carrera?

Is there a way to open the outside CV joint on a Carrera (1986)? The inside joint, on the transmission side, is fairly easy to do since you have access to the circlip once the cap is remove, but how do you take the outside joint apart ?

It can't be separated

WHAT ! That's it ???
I've been looking at it and searching the net for 2 hours to find a solution and it can't be done !

So that mean you can't repack this side with grease either ?

I've done both left and right CV joints on my 86, the outer CV's don't seem to wear as quickly as the inner. I serviced the outer joints by cleaning out the old grease with rags and solvents then repacked with new grease.

I also swapped sides when I re-installed so the balls will run on the opposite surface of the inner and outer race. This technique may or may not extend the life of the joints.

Thank guys. I will do the same then if not more can be done.

It can be opened if you give it a small slice with a cutting disc with a dremel. Then pry it off and repack.

Thank Jon, but I don't think I will go that far. I was just doing it for maintendance not because I have a real issue with it.

You only need to slice the edge where it's crimped to be able to prise it open. It soft so sone you get it cleaned and packed. You can tap it back down and seal,it up with silicone.
