Rear Seat Glue

I've replaced my carpet and am now putting the seats back in.

What glue do you recommend using for the rear seat bottoms? I've still got the 3M spray carpet adhesive, but I don't think that would adhere well to the fibrous stuff on the bottom of the seat, would it?

Wow, I'm only a few days ahead of you on this project... I re-installed my back seat bottoms earlier this week. I used the same 3M 74 spray adhesive that I used for the carpet. It seems to hold fine, although certainly nowhere near as secure as that stuff the factory used. In my case, that's no big deal... as long as I own the car (long time, I hope), nobody will ever ride back there. You might go ahead and try the 3M 74... it "sticks" pretty darned good. Then if it did happen to turn loose, you could go to Plan B (what would that be Silicone sealer from Home Depot?).

How did the carpet install go?

Thanks for the quick response! I'll definitely spray on the adhesive tomorrow AM.

The carpet install went pretty well. I have one spot I will re-do tomorrow--I got a little happy with the scissors and have a spot of frame showing.

Today, I installed a Kenwood subwoofer under the passenger seat, so I'm pretty excited about getting the front seats in and cranking it up.

I hope reinstalling the front seats is easier than getting them out!!

since you have the glue try the 74. i would suggest putting at least 2, and really 3, coats on each piece (seats bottom and car) alternating directions when applying.

The upholstery 3M spray was good enough for my rear car seats. They get used a lot.

I'm thinking when I put mine in, I'll glue some Velcro patches on to hold them in place & be able to remove them if the need ever arises.

Glue

I believe the factory used a 3M product called 1300L. It is still available. It comes in a quart can.

This is how they're held down in my 2009 Turbo.

I went ahead with a thick coat of the 3M spray adhesive since it was handy and it seems to be holding pretty well. If they come off, I may go with the velcro idea.

glue

Hi GUys,
Well the 3M spray stuff is good..however it will not hold out for long and with temperature variations.
The only way you guys should go to enjoy the finished product is Weldwood glue-not the gel.Put it on both sides-wait until it is dry and press together. That will hold and last.
