Wheel Size Opinions Needed
I have a set of 7 & 8 x 16 Euromeisters on order for my '81 Euro SC (the Fuchs are going into storage for now.) Is this the best option, or should I go with 6 & 7s? Curious as to what everyone thinks...
Thanks. |

I'm not aware of any 6" replicas. The 7 & 8 should work fine with stock sizes, as long as the front ride height isn't too low.

If you already ordered them, then it sort of a moot point, right?
![]() Seriously, the 7and8s will work great on 205/55 front and 225/50 rear tires which is the factory size. Mine fit perfectly although I do have a 10mm spacer on the rears.

depending on the tires you're using, you might experience some rubbing on the front fenders running 7" rims -- this is easily addressed by rolling the inner fender seam (search the forums) -- the 8" rears should fit just fine and will fill in the rear fenders quite nicely

Did you order from our host? I tried to buy 16x8s about a week ago but was told they were out of stock. Now considering 17x8s for the rear so I can have a wider selection of 245 width tires.
I think 6s and 7s on SC/Carreras look too narrow w/o spacers. I'm putting my 7s up front.

7x8 is fine, but doesn't the 7 need to be 944 offset in the front?

My 7s are ET23, and fit the front just right.

mine are the same, fit fine, but needed to roll the front fenders to avoid rubbing with 205/55-16 continental extreme contact dw tires

I just remembered the 8s need to be 951 offset to have any shot at fitting up front, maybe that is what you were thinking of, Jim?
My 7s in front actually don't need rolling, but I have some negative camber and am not the lowest.

SC wheels................
I have 7x16s front and 8x16 rear on my 1980 SC. They work quite well. As mentioned earlier just don't lower the car too much! My car is currently at or about the Euro height. A picture:

Thanks everyone, but now I'm confused. Seems to be a difference of opinion as to whether the front fenders need rolling (something I don't want to do) to fit 7s w/ 205/55 rubber. And do 8s really need spacers?

Euromeister 7x16 = ET23.3, 8x16 = ET10.6

on the fronts, not as much difference of opinion as differing results/applications. I.E. some folks running 7" fuchs up front with 205/55-16 have needed to roll fenders to keep from having the tires rub, while others have not. Further, to be sure we're on the same page -- fender rolling is not a big deal -- all we're talking about is pushing in part of the inner rim of the fender (inside of the wheel well) this does NOT involve pushing out on the outer fender (or affecting the look of the front fender) at all.
FWIW, in the winter time, I run 16x6" fuchs up front and switch out to 16x7 front fuchs for my summer tires -- GREATLY prefer how the 16x7 fronts fill out the front wheel wells. |

I'm running the 205-55s on the front 7x16s and 245-45s on the rear 8x16s with no problems. No spacers on either end.

I ran the 17x7 up front with 225s - and wide for 225s at that. When I had the factory camber plates, the front left would just barely brush the fender lip in very rare, perfect storm conditions. With an aftermarket camber plate maxed out I don't think I was even close.
Unfortunately, I think this is something you're going to have to try and see. Depends on your camber setting, what tire you choose (not all 205s are the same width, and diameter matters too), and even some individual differences in your actual car.

Here's my SC with 7s and 8s Euromeisters. 205/55 and 225/50 Yokahama S-Drives.
I painted the wheels this winter with Duplicolor Wheel paint in Graphite. ![]()

I have a 78 911 SC Targa that I am running with 16 X 7 both front and rear. All four tires are 225 50 R-16. The car hasn't been lowered and I have never had a problem with tire rubbing. Here is a picture with the 7's on it. Those rims are stock rims.

Thanks everyone, very helpful! Suspension/ride height is stock so seems like 7/8s x 16 should be fine...
