ebay ad - Its a 911, no wait a 993...

I have an unexplainable weakness for the Carrera 4. For grins checkout the first edit the seller added about the exact classification of this car. The third edit is bit more frightening but you only live once

pbs911 10-31-2002 11:04 AM

I could not imagine buying a car from that seller.
But at least he knew it was a Porsche.

Jgordon 10-31-2002 11:06 AM

5 speakers? He could be right, but I have six.....

paintinmotion 10-31-2002 11:10 AM

maybe so but it is a nice car .... would have been nicer as a turbo!

Superman 10-31-2002 11:20 AM

He's right about one thing. The 1989 993 is an exceedingly rare car indeed.

atlporsche 10-31-2002 11:42 AM

maybe one of the 6 speakers is blown...

The guy selling this car must have been a carnival barker. HE SHOOTS! HE SCORES!

Personally, I'd buy it just for the Grey Poupon... NOT!

Rot 911 10-31-2002 01:02 PM

with 24 bids apparently a few people don't care what it is.

stuartj 10-31-2002 03:16 PM

A 993/964 911! With driver, passenger AND side airbags. This gentlemen, is truly a collectible car....

Oh no, not that ebay ad. It's like deja-vu all over again. It made the rounds on Rennlist last week. That guy needs a real good tar & feathering.

tight as a bull's ass 10-31-2002 05:51 PM

"GEESH LA FEESH! Stop it already! I have gotten so many emails from self-appointed Porsche experts...it's a 901....it's a 994,..it's a 964...it's a 911...it's a 993 ...it's a 442 ...it's a 747... it's a DPS...it's a UPS...it's a bird.... it's a plane....blah... blah...blah.... QUIT! I guess I had not had my morning coffee when I wrote the ad...this is the first year of the CARRERA-4 all wheel drive 911's, and they did not make but a handful until 1990 the first official model year for the Carrera 4's. It's the first 993 STYLE 964 model as it were. And so rare in 1989...check this out...89 CARRERA 4's are so rare they are NOT LISTED in the N.A.D.A. used car book or kbb.com for 1989. Folks...I'll tell you what this car is...it's an darn nice 89 super low mileage Porsche Carrera 4 in EXCELLENT condition. So you are looking for or want an awesome Porsche in excellent condition?LOOK NO FURTHER! And this ain't no GIRLY MAN tiptronic automatic pilot baloney...THIS is a MANLY MAN 5-SPEED! SO LOOK NO FURTHER! This is THE ONE! Thanks for all your interest, your emails, your phone calls and especially ...YOUR BIDS! GOOD LUCK and Regards, J. Winston Barrington III "

personally, i wouldn't buy a car from a guy with an attitude problem....

silverc4s 10-31-2002 06:00 PM

For all you non-Texan and/or city slickers out there (you know who you are..), McAllen, TX is a ""border town"".
You can spit into Mexico from there, and any Porsche that lives there has either been stolen, wrecked, or been involved a drug bust at least one Saturday nite of it's pore old life.....

Epster77 10-31-2002 06:36 PM

Whatever that seller is smoking, he needs to share somehttp://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/burn.gif

Yup...you're describing the SoCal market all right.

Oh, drug *bust*? I just thought you meant drug *use*. My mistake...go back about your business...

"Sumotumo "Z" rated high speed tires......"

Have you ever heard of such tires?

old_skul 11-01-2002 12:33 PM

Geesh la Feesh, Mikkel, those are great tires.

cstreit 11-01-2002 12:45 PM

THe ooooold MANLY 5 speed... Glad I got one!

Oh, and he's added this now...

"CORRECTION: We were contacted by a great ebayer, Mr. Fred Beck, who informed us a carfax report shows this car has 79,000 miles and has either had the left front fender painted or replaced and painted. We had not done a carfax this Porsche at the time the ad was listed, because it is so immaculate for the year, and it runs and drives perfect. We made a mistake. In the continuing effort to accurately represent these cars in our ebay ads I am adding this information to the item description for the bidders. The odometer now reads 66,000."

They built mostly 911's in 1989 and only built a handful of this 993 style, the 993's went into full production in 1990, and this is a 1989 993 model. Collectors know: This Porsche is a RARE car indeed.

Engine Rebuild Book Update!

Got the first batch of the preview copies - they will go out today. The rest should ship the first part of next week. I think those who ordered first will have theirs shipped first, but don't quote me on that since I'm not doing the actual shipping.

I just got back the finished slides for the book - boy are you guys in for a treat. Even though this book will probably not sell as well as the 101 Porsche book, it will be a much better book. The 101 is good in that it leads you through a lot of projects carefully. However, it's not as in depth as you can get (heck, I had to squeeze 101 projects into 240 pages).

This engine book will indeed be the only thing that you will need to rebuild your engine. My editor was able to keep from cutting *anything* (except for Ch2 - engine drop, which was nixed a long time ago - already covered in "101"). So all of the info from all of the no-longer-published spec books is going to be in the Appendices, along with every single photo I selected for the rebuild process. A total of 385 photos in the book altogether.

Note, that this appendix information is not included in the preview copy - so please don't go looking for it.

I'm excited - although this turned out to be a much bigger project that I ever imagined, it's going to be a much better book than I thought possible - given my print-space limitations!

Interesting thread for the update Wayne, mistake or are you sugesting this car for sale might need a rebuild?

On that note, I'm REALLY looking forward to it... I want a nice personal note on my color copy though... How about

"Chris, thanks for buying my book. Anytime you need some parts like updated cams, engine kits, etc... just call me at home for a 25% "likable guy" discount. (555) 555-1212" - Wayne
