Cancer Kids Drive Day - PCNSW, Sydney
Porsche Club of NSW organised a very special event for patients from the Sydney Children's Hospital and Westmead Children’s Hospital. Many of these patients have attended the hospital for several years and suffer from conditions such as cancer, spina bifida and cystic fibrosis.
For the past three years, Porsche Club has arranged a drive day for kids from the hospital. It has become one of the most popular events with the patients. The day provided both the patients and parents with a fun day out, away from the Hospital where they can forget about their condition and just have a great time. The day began with us assembling at the Hospital car park, then being briefed with the route to follow. We then met the families and let the children decide which car they wanted to ride in. All late model 911’s were rushed, with some of the 944’s not having patients, but parents. We arrived at a country park where there were games and activities, along with a barbecue lunch and then a return journey to the hospital in the afternoon. There was great support on the day with 30 Porsche’s taking part. Many thanks to Dr Mike Barrett who organised the route which included the stretch of map below, the local radio station 2day FM who were at the park, giving away various items and to all group members who volunteered their services on the day. The day was no doubt a success and I know many clubs around the world do hold such events, but for those who don’t they are truly awarding for all parties. There was much discussion and admiring of others cars. I think the worst piece of advice I have received ever was given to me on the day, “If you are not sure of how to get there with the instructions, just follow someone”. Now, if you have ever tried to keep up to someone who is putting on a spirited drive, it is very difficult. The result, I fell behind, getting lost and only managing to get back onto the tail with the help of a 911sc(who I noticed had his hood still open from the hospital, just as we were about to get onto the freeway and quickly notified him). A day with many stories. I will endeavour to post as many pictures as I can. Anthony. Last edited by Tinton; 01-23-2003 at 05:03 AM.. |

![]() Stuff like this really perks the kids up. You won't belive how boring 10 day streches at the hospital can be and he didn't have any complications. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!

It's quite amusing the kids not wanting to ride in the 944s. I've always said kids have naturally good taste.
