Stretching a Cabriolet Boot?
 

I just bought a used original boot for my 88 Cab. The two snaps at the back line up real good and I can snap several of the side snaps on one side or the other. When I snap one side and the back the other side snaps are off about an inch. Has anybody ever soaked their boot and got it to stretch some? Thanks

I wouldn't soak it but I would use a spray bottle and keep on trying...

Try it outside where the sun can warm it up real good. It should stretch best then. I agree not to soak it.

^ +1. I have used the hot day/sun trick many times on older boot covers, Triumphs and MGs. Put the cover in the sun (or use a dryer for this) and work at it. I would not soak it, esp. with any alcohol-based product claiming it will stretch fabric (common in the shoe industry).

I'll try putting it in the sun but why would soaking it in water be a bad idea?

Water rots and causes mildew, esp. when immersed. I suppose if you want to use warm water that might give you both worlds. Your call - your boot.

I'd probably mist warm water on it then place it out in the sun. If you want to go the fast route, go buy a small steamer from harbor freight and steam it. That's how the shop installed my new top when it was too tight.
