rough start/rough idle/rpm drop and raise
My 89 3.2 has been parked for a few weeks as I have been busy. Started once a week and taken for a little drive. This morning I decided to take it out and it was very rough starting. I had to keep the gas pedal depressed to finally catch. As it sat there idling, the engine felt very rough sort of shaking and did not sound normal. I gave it some gas and held it at about 3000 rpm and keeping it at that steady rpm the tach a few times dropped a bit and then recovered.
It has never done this before and has never idled so rough. Nothing has been done mechanically to cause the change and the gas is probably a month old. Any ideas???

sounds to me like you need to pull and inspect your plugs, i've noticed my carrera when sitting for a week or so it takes a little bit for all 6 to fire (which explaines the stumbling), i intalled new plugs and she was perfect again.
hopefully it's somthing simple. my .02

I agree with Bell. Pull a plug for some clues. I'd also suggest that if you let it sit too long to use some fuel additive to keep it fresh. Better living through chemistry. This time of the year the fuel people are beginning to change fuel additives for the cold weather coming in. Hopefully its only a minor problem.

One of the symptoms of a bad O2 sensor as I understand it is a rough idle

Solved it guys.
I kept thinking it felt like it was chocking for gas. Then I thought about the fuel and went and bought 5 gallons of Amoco premium 93 octane (prior fill up had been of premium but at a 7 11). Put in the fresh gas...and fired right up and ran perfectly smooth. I know my chip requires 93 or 94 octane. I am guessing the 7 11 premium is not premium! Took a 50 mile trip that afternoon and not a problem.

If your car will be sitting for an extended period of time, then I would highly recommend that you fill the fuel tank up first. A near-empty tank is more prone to build up condensation within and this will cuase all kinds of problems.
