Engine compartment fan switch removal from flapper box handles??
I noticed my fan is operating intermittently. I removed the cover from the parking brake assembly and noticed one of the switches doesn't appear to be making good contact when the flapper box handles are in the full up position. I can take a finger and move the switch and the fan will activate.
Are there cleanable contacts? And how do you remove the switch? Does the entire parking brake assembly need to come out? I removed the nut on the passenger side that would hold the lever and switch but it won't come out because it rests inside the parking brake handle mounting body. Will the bolt that holds the levers slide to one side or another? I'll try to post some pics and a how to once this is completed. I did some searching for how to remove the flapper box cable pulls but must not have used the proper terminology or this is the best kept secret in the Porsche community. Thanks for any help! |

Electrical contact cleaner can be used but you probably need to slightly bend the contact tab. |

there is a bolt with a nut on each side that appears to pass through the parking brake handle and holds a the switch on the passenger side. Does that bolt slide out? IF it does I can't get it to for some reason. This is about half embarrassing. I can take my whole car apart for painting, install new carpet and put the whole car back together after being painted but I can't figure out how to get a bolt out to remove a switch! |
Okay so here's where I'm at. I removed the 3 bolts that fasten the Ebrake assembly to the tunnel. I lifted the ebrake assembly and saw a pin with a clip that holds the cable to the arm. I'll remove the clip and pin but how do you remove the cables from the flapper box handles? It looks like it loops onto the handles. Do I pull the entire cable (oh pleas no) or do I pull the cable and untwist it to take it off the handle?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1429105182.jpg

Well, I gave up on getting the assembly out. What I've found is the blower only turns on and off when the passenger side lever is up. The drivers side does nothing except open and close the flapper box. There is a spring switch for the drivers side and I can see it moving to open a contact when the lever is down but it does nothing and up it does nothing. The flapper box opens and closes but the drivers side lever does not engage the fan. Any suggestions?
I reversed the two yellow wires and now the fan turns on and off with the drivers side lever. Easy fix. It's still a little flaky but at least it will come on and stay on. I'll dig into how to remove the assembly more later. |
