Redline Transmission Fluid...why not?
So, I've done some searching through past threads and read completely different things about RedLine Trans Juice 75w-140 in regards to Porsche transmissions, mine in question being a 915.
I drive the car hard, but never on the track and always less than 5000mi/yr. When I got the car (5 seasons ago)I put Swepco and since learning the 915 feel, replacing all shift bushings and adjusting the coupler, (dramatic improvement) I feel like there is still something to gain. Why RedLine? I recently put it in my e39's 6-spd and it literally transformed the transmission. It felt like it went from 143k to showroom new. 1st and 2nd we're grumpy when cold and 3rd was always a little strange. The fluid change erased all symptoms. The feeling I was getting in/out/between shifts on the 6-spd are very similar to what I feel can be improved on my 915...so I'm thinking it's worth a shot? War stories? Success stories? I'm open to it all. SauCe

Hey bud.
Obviously, the E39 gearbox uses a different style of gears and synchros than the 915. The old style box needs a "grittier" oil for the synchros to work correctly. I used Redline in my Z with the ZF 6 speed and saw huge gains in shifting smoothness. It's a great product but I don't feel it's right for the 915. BTW--do you use Water Wetter in your BMW coolant? If not, look into it. I have been using it in water cooled vehicles for many years and believe it helps with lower temps as well as water pump lubrication.
