925 sportomatic diff (r&p) in 915?
Something I haven't quite been able to confirm through internet research: can the 925 sportomatic ring & pinion be put into a 915? The 8:27 ratio would suit me pretty well on track, keeping me mostly within 3rd and 4th, avoiding a shift to 5th and most importantly a hairy downshift from 5th.

Interesting question, which I don't actually know the answer to. According to PET the sporto differential is different than the 915 version. On the old 6:29 r/ps in the 911 gearbox that was the case because the ID of the ring gear was smaller. I'm wondering if the same is true of the 925 sporto 8:27 as well.

Yeah, I know the 905 sporto diff is incompatible with the 901 (from wes42's post in this thread here: 914club.com > 901 Trans Higher Ring & Pinion?). I'm hoping that Porsche improved their parts-bin engineering on the 925, though.
Was hoping that somebody could confirm before I go off and buy one just to see if it fits... |

925 r&p
I took a 925 apart a few years ago and remember the pinion shaft was different than the 915 shaft. I compared them and couldn't see a way to make the 925 shaft work in a 915. I didn't save any pictures.
