Nick, following up to your reply - if I have to wire the radio in the hard way, ugh!, is there any guide or chart to tell me what wire is what in my 1989 3.2 Targa eg, red is power, brown is ground, etc?

The old Becker or Blaupunkt should have a little decal on the back or on the top of the radio which gives you the wire details.
