AC completely died, trouble shooting help needed
Today I was driving with the AC on working fine, as it has for months. Turned the car off at a store, turn back on and no AC. No fan, no blower, nothing. Turned the switch several times, nothing. Went and check on Relay #1 in the trunk, swapped it with one from another slot, nothing. All the fuses look ok. What else should I check?
It's the original compressor (1981 930) but rest of system has been upgraded to R134 (evaporator, condensor, hoses). |
Check the fuse/relay in the smuggler's box

+1 with what Draco said.
When the points in that relay stick (or it has some other problem) nothing in the a/c system will work. One thing you can try as a "test" is to tap/smack the relay with something and see if it "frees up" and starts working. Regardless, they are cheap and easy to replace. |
your going to regret asking an AC question on this forum. any moment now..

Long as it is the same amps.

I think I read somewhere that the all electrical circuits in a 911 will work better if your reverse the flow of the electrons... no, sorry, must've imagined that.

Ours died while working fine a few years ago, it turned out to be the console switch. The contacts were burned and finally gave up. Replaced it, works.

Another simple test is to put 12 volts to the red side of the AC blower connector. Ground to the brown side wire. If it blows you know it works and can start to trace down where the problem is. Very likely it is the relay.

That's interesting. The one I have says 30 A max. Would it be better to use a higher or lower amp relay? |

Just replaced the relay in the smugglers box and I'm back in business with, working AC! And no, I don't regret posting about AC questions. You guys saved me a couple of hundred bucks. Thanks DRACO , Ronnie and 86 911 Targa.

Someone had a problem. Some people suggested some VALID solutions for this problem. Problem solved. Nice not to have the stream of verbal diarrhea that accompanies most of these threads. Well done, gentlemen! Now back to your regularly scheduled A/C thread.... |
