Outer door felt - Targa vs. Coupe?

Anyone have experience with this part? It's the felt lined piece that fits against the outside of the door window below the "squeegee" and keeps the glass from rattling. The targa part is currently $120 (it was $17.50 back in 2006), the coupe part is $35. It's #7 in the door parts diagram.

Since the doors shells are generic (i.e., not specific to coupe or targa from what I see), I was wondering why the coupe version wouldn't work - might be a bit shorter or longer to account for the different window frames, but I would think the attachment points should be the same. Shorter fine, longer, dremel.

Anyone know? Trying to save a few $ on a pretty simple part. Thanks.

It is indeed different due to the window frames.

I have done a couple on a Targa and one side on a Cab. In the last year or so.

I wouldn't modify these, will expose sharp edges and un coated steel, which will rust again sooner...

Sucks, but I guess it's the Targa/Cab. Tax.

Can you post a part#? I'd like to research it. I know about these pieces of trim on an 82 targa where the door meets the window:

1- aluminum anodized trim
2- rubber squeegee that sits on the trim
3- inner felt (in between door glass and top of inner door)
4- door beading (sits on top of metal edge of door) with felt

Is it something else (ie. not 1-4 above), and does anyone know a part number on my #4 part?

You sure it's steel? I'm thinking this might be aluminum. I have no direct experience with this piece, but the felt that runs across the top, underside of the door opening has a metal strip in there that seems way too light to be anything other than aluminum.

The piece the OP is asking about is felt wrapped around a steel core with little steel "buttons" that snap it into holes in the door shell.

The reason I have replaced them is that over time the steel rusts and the whole piece falls apart.

Kind of a mess.

Hope this works - link to diagram and part numbers:

Installation Parts Doors

Targa is 91153129540
Coupe is 91153193520

Drivers side, that is, for each.

Mine isn't falling apart from rust - shedding felt up through the squeegee.

Let me just say when you remove the old one make sure you account for all the old "buttons"....so the most rearward one doesn't wind up falling down into your door latch/lock mechanism! Been there done that!
