Anyone Know The Part Number For This ??
I'm not referring to the pop off valve, but the masterpiece in the back of the air box. Any idea what it might be there for?

There is a drain tube where it appears the wire is going down. I think it would be hard to see what it is attached to with the engine in the car. If it makes you feel better, I have seen worse "fixes" then this on my car.

Was thinking about this, I wonder if that is some lame way to hold down your air box. Do you know if the two brackets that hold the air box are missing? Just a thought.

Will the air box move at all with the brackets missing? Seems like the intake tubes would hold it fairly steady. It is really hard to see back there with the AC, Air pump and the heater blower in the way. Planning to get rid of the air pump and back date the heat as I go through my project list :).

I guess it wouldn't move too much, at least I wouldn't think. I know there are two brackets though so I would assume Porsche put them there for a reason. Interesting to know what the po was trying to do on yours.

I'll probably pull it off next weekend and see what it connects to.

Figured it out?
So I finally figured out what the mystery wire was connected to. There was a hose connected to the bottom of the airbox drain. The hose had a safety pin pushed through it in a perpendicular direction to the hose. The wire was wrapped around the safety pin. My only guess was that it was to keep the hose from falling off the bottom of the air box drain??? The other end of the hose was sort of connected to the cruise control solenoid. Not sure what connects there, but don't think that was the correct connection at either end, but very creative. Does anyone know what connects to the threaded port on the cruise control? Photos showing the setup below.

The big port on the cruise servo just has a big vacuum line on it that gets tucked into the body in the dead center of the firewall (there is a hole to tuck it into). The line is open on the end that tucks into the body (it is just a vent to atmosphere). Dead end vacuum line that just vents air into the servo.
Looks like a po devised a fancier and totally unnecessary way to vent the cruise servo. |
