I just installed a new water heater last week. Thank God it was an AO Smith!

Here's the contact information for State water heaters, if anyone might want to contact them:

Yeah, sounds likely....
Some company would really do that wouldn't they? To earn themselves good press too at this economic moment.
Or maybe it's just the news - as ever - sensationalizing things, getting it wrong, etc.
It's one of my peeves when people write/broadcast something and everyone believes it. It happens all the time and people are taken in.
Before believing this and emailing everyone and everybody, contact the company and ask is it true? They probably won't say, but if you've got the energy to boycott something at least research it to see if it's true.
That's where I'd start....

Question

Boycott?
If the company has specific policies in place (ie..."long standing rules against employees distributing ANYTHING that hasn't been cleared by the...[HR dept]") then the employee should have, without confrontation, collected the copies and followed company procedures. If he wished to not follow company policies (he was probably reminded) then he should have been prepared to be asked or told to leave the company for violation of those policies.
It may be true that a termination occurred. It may also be true that a troublesome employee (one which will likely get the EEOC and/or an attorney involved) is finally getting the ax from a frustrated employer. The "[I] would have felt very unpatriotic" line (TO THE PRESS AT THIS TIME) should be worth lots of sympathy, and maybe money, for him from our wacky courts.
Rare would be the company in today's business climate, and given the public's current exagerated patriotism, that would intentionally terminate an employee for such a reason. Think it through.

Sounds like this guy was interested in doing everything except what he was getting paid for. I support his patriotism, but not when on the payroll. That is what his spare time is for, not theirs.
He was warned, but decided not to comply with company policy or direction. I would have fired him also.
You can flame if you want, but this has absolutely nothing with supporting the victims, or being patriotic, or supporting our military.
it has to do with an employee not doing his job, being warned, still not complying, and being terminated. Nothing more.

Hey Sam, I don't recall the article saying anything about the man not doing his job. Oh yeah, ever hear of a little thing called "Freedom of Speech"?

Right Kurt, but if the guy sought your counsel you would get his job back...for a nominal fee of course.
