After shipping costs you usually save VERY little. Plus if you ever have a problem you have no one to lean on. Most reputable stores will match the price.

With prime it's free 2 day shipping. I have purchased quite a few parts from Amazon for my daily drivers.

I too have bought a lot of stuff using Amazon Prime including a bunch of car parts. I love Prime! Of all the stuff I've bought however, it seems like the most frequent shipping problems (wrong stuff, one instead of two, later than the two day guarantee, etc.) has been with car parts. Amazon backed me up every time and fixed the problem so I wouldn't hesitate. Prices are usually pretty comparable with the car parts places like ******** or the dealers but when you add back free shipping compared to the usual high shipping charge, Amazon almost always smokes them.

I will say that with car tires, if you have a really good tire shop willing to mount them when they didn't sell them it can work OK. If you use a place like Discount Tire, your total may not be much different though. Plus the Discount Tire certificate (free balance, rotate, road hazard coverage) can be a good deal if you go through tires and need them balanced and rotated a lot. I've also had two replacements under the road hazard coverage but beware that tire styles change a lot so you may not be able to replace just the damaged tire which means you can still be coming out of pocket.
