Would early style heat exchangers bolt on to my car the same way SSI's do? In other words, are the SSI's an exact copy of the early ones and therefore give the same performance increases?
thanks for any replies.

The SSi's are trying to be exact copies, but better. They (SSi's) seem to have much better welds, and they are Stainless.
For an 82 SC the SSi's will be better, than the early 911 exchangers, in that SSi builds in the thicker mounting flange, as well as the internal port flange . . .and an O2 sensor port. The mounting "fit" will be the same. edit: SSi claims a bit more HP than the old/early style HE's . .. they attribute this to the better welds.

Thanks Island. I would love SSI's but they are sooo expensive. I am hoping to find original ones for cheaper if possible.
