Tire Choice

Looking for some opinions on tires. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on some 17 x 7/9 Euromeisters and am trying to make a tire decision. Going to go with 215/45/17 front 255/40/17 rear. Tire Rack has by far better prices than I can source locally. I was originally thinking RE11 but they are being phased out and are not available in the above sizes. So trying to decide between the Pole Position S04 or the new RE71R. Anyone running either tire?

My car is a weekend toy. Back road fun car. I may have an autocross or DE day in the future but mostly spirited driving on the street. Would be rare to drive in the rain. Is the RE71r going to be too much tire (much more extreme tread)? Seems like the S04 may be a bit more well rounded street very occasional track tire although sacrificing a bit of dry grip. S04 is about $115 cheaper for the set but in the grand scheme of things the cost really isn't a factor. Very little info on the RE71r but Tirerack iniial review seems to think it is better than the RE11 was.

Currently have a set of Continental Extreme Contact DW on my 16" wheels and while they are ok I think they feel a bit soft.
