Austin TX BBQ tour - April 2015

The driving season in Austin is coming to a close. The heat of the day is upon us and soon our poor little Air cooled cars without AC will be baring down making it difficult to get out except in the early morning or late evening.

So, yesterday we decided to take a trip to Llano, TX for some of the state's famous BBQ. Coopers is a local establishment that is on just about every top BBQ list produced. So, it was worth a few hours of driving backroads to build up an appetite.

Our local group gathered about 12 cars and off we went. I had some family things come up and so I left a little later than the group, taking a more direct route as I played catch-up.

I arrived and found John's great car sitting out front. Yes, its the real deal.



After a brief wait in line we were able to order. You can see the line forming along the front of the building. For those who have never been to TX you order by the pound. That means you tell the pit boss how much to cut off a particular slab of meat. So, the list was long and it all smelled so good.





My family and I ended up with the pork ribs (dry rub), some smoked turkey and the brisket. Everything else looked so good but my stomach was only so big.

The rest of the group had just as much to eat and it was all smiles and napkins.








After a few minutes there were only bones left. Yes, it was good.



When we came out the line was around the corner of the building. It was good timing to get there early.

After lunch we took more backroads home. I was in the family DD BMW following a few of the group. The wildflowers were out in force: Blue, yellow, orange. It was a great contrast to John's S in front of me.

Nice! Looks like it was a great day and I am reminded of a great trip to COTA last year for the 6 hrs WEC race; was fortunate enough to take a side trip to Lockhart to visit Blacks. Loved Austin and can't wait to go back
