Correct Paint for '85

Hello,

I'm sending off my car to be re-sprayed next week. Painter wants to know what the factory used when painting the car originally. Is it a single or 2 stage paint? I just need to know what to tell the guy when he picks up my car. Base then clear? is there a reason to go to Glasurit paint vs. PPG or another?

My car is original Meteor Metallic/Y05 paint. I plan on having the car re-sprayed in the original color.
My car is NOT a show car. Many things have been modified so I'm not trying to make it a factory collectable car... just want it to look real nice and true to the original nature of the car where it makes sense.

I'm very uneducated when it comes to paint so please excuse my ignorance.

I believe all the P cars were clear coated in the 80s.

There is a way to look up the paint code. The person at the auto paint supply store should be able to then determine what is used to replicate the original.

My 83 is single stage Glasurit - original. Not sure but I thought clear coat was added in the late 80's.

Edit - I did a search and found reference to metallic paints DID get clear coated.
