'70 2.7 Fuel Pump/Weber Question
A practical question...
![]() This fuel pump was connected to dead head at Webers(pump - filter - fuel pressure regulator - carbs) and Heater w/return, and works fine...Heater has been removed so now just need to pump fuel to dead head Webers...I'm leaning toward retiring the original fuel pump, to stay with the heater should it be restored at a later date, and getting a new pump... If I do is there a best replacement? Thanks, Pete |

If the pump is working fine why would you not continue to use it? The amount of fuel used by the gasoline heater must be tiny

Right...Good question that. I have reduced plumbing, the gas heater, and I was thinking that a 45 year old pump might be more prone to failure than a newer pump... also thought a new pump might be a little lighter. I was also questioning that with having Webers now, as opposed to the original injection, there might be a better match for fuel flow in an updated pump.

The one you have is better than anything you might buy. The new Bosch pumps are junk. Plus, you want to keep a 1970 as original as possible.
If you're worried remove the pump and send it to Fuel Injection Corp. A lot of us here have used them. ![]() Richard Newton |

Best pump ever for carbs. The reason you can dead head is that the third port is your regulated return valve.
Use it. Don't use anything else.

Pretty unclear as to what you are suggesting as there is no return from the carbs and without the gas heater the other ports aren't necessary...

Pump has 3 ports.
1. Supply from tank 2. Pressure to carbs 3. return to tank. The pressure to carb port is a dead head since there is no return from the carbs. They are all necessary. If you have a gas heater (up front) there is an additional fitting to pull fuel for the Webasto. I have not seen another type of fuel powered heater in the rear of the car.

Stellar advice, all.
Thats THE best "carbureted" fuel pump money can buy for these cars and I'd run it. Its a real shame that Bosch no longer makes them.
