I have R taillights, but I don't have an impact bumper.

I don't really understand the question--what impact bumpers have to do with it, or are you just curious what they look like with impact bumpers as opposed, say, to the fiberglass mock-IROC rear bumper I have? Installation is identical.

in theory it doesn't make sense.
if the factory were going so far as to use a lightweight fiberglass tailight assembly they would also go ahead (one would assume) and replace the street bumper setup with lightweight fiberglass covers. R lights are the obvious clue to a 911 lightened to the extreme and are in stark contrast to impact bumper assemblies. the can look good though.

That's what I was looking for, going on a black 86 Coupe and I will remove the large rubber over riders. I just wanted to see if it looked wrong with impact bumpers.

I am guessing I am in the minority when I think this might look good. The overriders would go as well.

In my humble opinion, impact bumpers look just great without the rubber pads. My next one I will fill the holes and paint it up proper, on the bastard pictured I left them with holes and some plugs. I think it still looked better than the pads, but not everyone thought so (like my wife for instance).
The don't like R lights personally, even though I'm a liteweight freak. Just my opinion, I might even change it some day. It looks OK in the black photoshop above I guess. ![]()

I not only have the body-color R taillights but a body-color carbon-fiber panel that replaces the garish
P O R S C H E reflector, which I always considered one of those "I know it's a Porsche, but you don't need to" moments.

I did it recently with the IROC bumper look and not sure I'll stick with it....

I like that A LOT. Where did you get the IROC bumper - that's the way to go. I you decide to convert back let me know, I'll buy those. That car looks right.

My thoughts are that it looks goofy to have early parts on a late car and goofy to have late parts on a early car.
examples: Whale tails on any car before 1974 Black out chrome RS/ RSA door panels Seats of the wrong era Converting SWB cars to LWB Converting short hood to long hoods Carreras converted to 964s stereos/ speakers where do I begin Any modification made in the 1980s "Feel free to add to this list" |

[QUOTE=super9064;4585641]My thoughts are that it looks goofy to have early parts on a late car and goofy to have late parts on a early car.

You can get away with a lot with an SC / Carrera I think. The 911 R taillights are pushing it which is why I asked. I did the RS door panels and would do a long hood conversion.

Truly, one of the ugliest, most awful and ridiculous modifications ever done to these cars.

Tough Crowd
Tough crowd. I did the tailights to save 8-10 pounds where it counts, but I'm not really warming up to it.
I hesitate to flash the RS door panels for those against them, but I just think tartan plaid is so period correct for the SC's. ![]() ![]() |

I won't go as far as Wilson, but I don't particularly like the R lights. However, if you do it, go all the way. Just my .02 |
