tachometer won't work when hot out

My tach seems to be very dependent on the ambient temp. When in the garage, when cool tach works fine. But when parked in the sun or even sitting in the garage and very hot out won't work. Pegged at 0. Sometimes after driving for a while it may start operating, sometimes not!. Did a search but did not find any definitive conclusions.

Pretty common. Not enuff clearance in the gauge, and when it heats up, it freezes. On my 81 it'll go to around 5k and then stay there for a while, then start working again,,,,,,kind of. There was a thread on here many many years ago on a fix, but I don't have a clue what it was. You'll get used to it.

I had the same problem and turns out the plastic lens on the the tach was warped a bit. Replaced it with a glass one and problem solved.

Now I'm starting to remember. I think they turned the lens around and it gave more clearance. Thanx Golf. This old brain needs a kickstart sometimes!

Funny thing though., over the last few years it did get stuck in different positions when it was hot out. This led me to believe in was the plastic lense warping. This year however in hot weather the tach doesn"t move at all, pegged at 0 rpm., like not getting at pulse when hot. Maybe still the lense? Thanks for the resonses.

Anyone know the link for flipping the lens? I have this issue also. Only when parked in sun

^^^That's where your search prowess will appear or not. Seriously, it was 6-8 years ago. I don't even know if Pelican keeps stuff that long.
