Now, that's a great car - a bit Ferrariesque, but better looking IMO than a GT2.

I could a poop, on how it looks! hahaha;) :D As long as the Porsche powered puppy makes it into the winners circle!!!!!!!!!It's OK in my book!!!!!!!!!!

Is this competing against the Audi ALMS cars? I don't know too much about it, but it doesn't look as svelt as a GT1 or even a 962 - it has a largish cockpit. It could almost pass for a road-based supercar (ala McClaren).

Did I recall someone saying it's using Boxster-based engine?

This is going to race in a new category in the Grand Am series. I think they're called 'Daytona Prototypes'. It won't compete in ALMS. From what I understand, the new category is relatively low-cost and is essentially a 'spec-car' series where all cars - regardless of manufacturer - will be very similar.

I hate to say it but with that body it kinda looks like a kit car to me.

I do agree, however, that I won't care what it looks like as long as she is sitting in the winner's circle :)

Just to be clear, the body and chassis are not built by Porsche. It's a Fabcar design with a Porsche motor. I don't think there's any factory involvement at all.

One thing that strikes me odd about the picture of the Brumos Daytona Prototype are the headlights. The rules require that the car be equiped with production headlights and taillights from the engine manufacturer. What production Porsche are those headlights from?

The spec sheet says 996 headlights and "Boxter" taillights. FABCAR also indicates a "Six Cylinder Boxter" motor. :) -- Curt

Here's the competition. It's a Picchio made in Italy. One will be Maserati-powered, the other BMW-powered.

Grand Am is a NASCAR-related series, had some good racing this year, especially in the GT class (Porsche #1, Ferrari #2 in the GT manufacturer standings).

The Daytona Prototypes will be the new class in the Rolex Sports Car series, to take the place of the old Sports Racing Prototypes (Riley & Scotts, Lola-Judds, etc)after a 1-year overlap. They debut at the Daytona 24.

ALMS is run by the Panoz organization.

I wonder how long they can keep up two completely independent pro racing series.
