Sound clips -- muffler bypass "track pipe"

Ok these are clips of my otherwise stock '88 targa with the muffler removed, but a pipe put on in its place. I call it a track pipe, it's a muffler bypass. Some of the clips are with me driving normally, some are of me accelerating to redline, some are from outside of the car some are from inside.

in car accellerating briskly

in car 50 or so

Sounds cool Steve. Over here there is a 75dB (tested at a 30 metre distance from the circuit) limit at most race tracks. I take it you can do whatever you want over in your part of the world?

Wow, 75 that sound pretty low. I don't think my local track has a limit, but then I also think it's pretty rare. I think most of the tracks here are in the 90-95 db range.

Thanks Steve. I also enjoyed your previous posts with your Flowmaster muffler (and sunglasses). Do you have the decibel ratings of the muffler ON vs OFF?
Also, any idea what the decibel rating is of the Flowmaster muffler with ONE out? (passenger side outlet capped).
I'm leaning towards a Flowmaster muffler, one in/one out on my stock 3.2 with cat intact. Not expecting much/any HP gains, but mainly going for the aural satisfaction.

Mike, I don't have any db readings. If I was going to go with a flowmaster and only wanted a single out I would get a 1 in 1 out and loop a pipe around or do the same with a 1 in 2 out and cap the driver's side then loop a pipe around from the passenger's side. I would think going straight through the muffler would give better flow.

No, I don't have any pics, but you can get the harder to find part here, summit racing part # hok-11026 for $24 for a pair, so two guys could split the cost.

Once you've got that all you need is a $4, 135 deg, 2 1/2" elbow from an auto parts store and a clamp, or you can have a muffler shop weld something up for you.

As for Performance change, I can't say for sure. It really felt different, not just accel feel, but what the car would do, break traction, redline earlier in places that I drive everyday, etc..., but I don't want to trust that since our minds can fool us. Too many people have "felt" a difference where there was none. It will make the car lighter which does translate to faster, and the only part farther back that you could use to loose weight is the bumper, so it's in a good location too.
