'79 SC "Wirrrring" Noise Update

'79 SC "Wirrrring" Noise

The noise I described yesterday, (see below), is intermitant. On the way home last night it made the noise for a few minutes then quit.

I drove it very aggresivlly and could not make it make the noise. Same thing this morning.

Anyone had similar experience?

PS I can't figure out how to spell check on a new post. On replies, I have tried the spell check button but it does not seem to work.

Bad Speller <><

On my way to work this morning the 'ol SC started making a "wirrrring" sound. It is directly related to engine speed. It even does it when reved at a stop light. Sound is from the left rear. I noticed that even in gear going approx 45 mph, when I depresed the accelerator, the wirrrring would speed up as if the clutch was dis-engaged. (Clutch is not slipping however)

Any ideas?

Throw-out bearing????

Copy the post before sending it- to Word (or whatever you use) then have it check for spelling, and paste it back into the post before sending it.

switch to OS X and use OmniWeb as a browser...it spell checks automatically.

dont sweat the spelling, i get flamed for it regularly and im still kicking. the noise is it more of a whirling than a wriing? my 78 has a whirrling noise at about 25k to about 35k rpm and i have been told by a wrench and here that its probally the hydrolic tensioner upgrade. i kinda like the sound,, it 930ish.

worse speller, and fine w/ it

It would also be my guess that your chain tensioner is going. My car was making a similar sound at the left rear and I was told that it was probably the chain tensioner going.

I'm upgrading to hydraulic tensioners this weekend, so I guess we'll see if that's correct!

BTW, I stopped driving it after I was told that it might be the chain tensioners. You really don't want them to go out all the way.

......already has hydralic tensioners. Noise is new and intrmitant.
