Help: Removing dash fresh air controls
I'm in the process of backdating my interior and i'm about to swap the fresh air sliders control unit with an early style chrome face. i was able to remove all the bolts off the unit that holds it to the chassis and also the bolts that hold the wires into the unit.
How do you remove the bowden cables? since its in a Z shape and hard to bend out of the holes ... its quite frustrating not being able to remove that part  any help would be appreciated, Thanks |
hard to explain, but there is a spring clip mechanism that holds the cable. You have to squeeze the center of the clip which will compress the spring tension and then unclip the end the latches over the retainer.
that probably didnt help at all. lol.. |

I generally disconnect the cables in the trunk, pull the cables through the bulkhead, then remove everything as a unit.

Yes, do what Java says....disconnect the cables at the mixers and pull the whole mess thru the dash so you can work on it outside the car.
|
levers/faceplate & cables all come out as one piece.
|
Yes as one unit. Grab the little tab in the middle of the zinc coated clips securing the cables to the control levers on the box and vents and pull upward. Dont lose them, try not to bend them, and good luck putting them back on!

Kind of related - my mixing (center) lever doesn't work as the cable / wire is bent on the control side. I can't find just the cable on our host's system.
If I'm reading right, best course of action is to: A) remove the whole lever system as a unit with the cables attached B) clean / lube everything C) Either try and straighten the cable and hop it doesn't re-bend, or buy some music wire from a hobby store and re-bend myself a new cable? |
There are several earlier threads on this topic.

don't try and straighten the cable, it is too much work to get the whole unit in and out.
put a WTB ad in the classified section for a cable but include the length as there are several similar cables Lorne M. |
I have some extra cables you can have if you cover shipping.
|
wow thanks for all the response so far!
I tried to twist the lines and forced them out of the unit but now i think I broke them since they don't work as they should. Quote:

Sounds good, I can get them out on Monday via USPS.
