Am I the only air cooled 911 owner with kids

I posted another subject 'Childs High Back Booster for 911 sc', wanted the change the title to 'Am I the only air cooled 911 owner with kids' but Pelican Parts forum doesn't have that functionality.

No joy with my original post, so does anyone else with an air cooled have kids, or only me...

Which would be interesting in itself, maybe.

You're not the only one with kids (although mine are too big to fit in the back now...)

Google image search for "child car seat Porsche 911" brings up a lot of examples.

I have 2 kids, 11(boy) and 9(girl).

I saw your post but couldn't offer any help.

My kids, one at a time, rode in the front seat in a standard car seat. I think ours were Graco.

The rear seats being so narrow pose problems for most run-of-the-mill car seats.

Nope... my kids grew up riding in the 951, 964, 996TT... These were my family car for many years...reason why I could never get a two seater...it had to accommodate the four of us...

Child seat

I have two childrens that ride with me. The older I just strap in now, which affords him a lot more room from the back of the front seat. The younger still uses the cosco seat we got at babies r us or something. She likes it. It is narrow enough to fit And it stays put in the seat.

Kids

Hello
Here's my all around solution. I used run-of-the-mill 4 point racing harnesses, I welded reinforced steel plaques to the rear shelf and behind the back seats to mount the pins for properly secure points. The lower mounting points in the rear seat are hidden behind the rear seat backs. This gave me an almost invisible solution for racing harnesses. When the kids use the rear seats, the harnesses' lower belts are mounted in these hidden pins and they can be pulled back and fit my little ones super-securely around their chests. When used for track, they can be pulled out and the lower belts can be attached to the front seats for a day of secure fast laps. These un-attach quite easily and can be stored in minutes when not in use.

Hi enzoducoing, you know what I keep thinking why am I trying to fit something else in the back of there, your solution looks nice and my son does fit in the actual seat that's already there really well, the only issue I have is that he is a bit taller and his head is above the top of the original seat and is in free space, im not comfortable with that, was even wondering If I could use the back of a high back booster and remove the base all together and make it 'bolt in' somehow, having said all that, im sure from a legal/safety/insurance point of view, its all not allowed

I have kids.

My son was in a car seat on the bench where I rebuilt my 912 motor.

I took my kids in the 912 since they were babies - we had to use ratcheting tie downs to install their car seats in the back seats, but it worked nicely.

Now that they are older, only my daughter and her friends can fit in the back of the Carrera, my son is too tall for the back seat anymore.

It's a big plus being able to take the family in the car for fun rides!

Thanks,
Erik.

With all due respect I don't think the harness setup in this photo is safe. The shoulder straps will separate with forward motion and the lap section is in the middle of the abdomen not the hip. This could cause injury to the internal organs in a crash situation. While I'm not a MD or harness expert (perhaps there are some on the forum) I would suggest speaking with an expert to verify the safety of this precious cargo. The owner at HMSmotorsport.com would be a good resource.

Thanks for the heads up on my less than perfect design. I'll re-do the idea to make it safer. Probably with 5 point seat belts to bring the bottom part to the hip and a closing chest buckle to avoid shoulders from slipping thru. As you said, this precious cargo deserves all my attention.
Thanks again and cheers.

I modified a booster seat to fit the back of the 951.

My daughter really liked the 911, as it had no back seats, and she loved the racing shells and 5-point harnesses up front- Especially if friends saw her getting in or out of the car.

Took my 9YO son on a spirited drive this morning.

He was the first one to ride in my targa when I restored it. He was in a bucket seat on the floor board as we took it on and off the trailer and pushed into the garage with fresh paint.

He is now old enough to help out with some of the car projects.

I strapped him in the front seat with ratchet straps attached to the seat to mimic a LATCH system. It was very secure. As he grew I changed the system. No he is big enough to just sit there.

I just wish I could put him in the back seat so we could go as a family instead of just a Father/Son thing. Though I think my wife likes to have the morning free when we head out for a few hours worth of driving.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I need some makes and models though

List of possibilities

Recaro Pro Booster
Britax Encore 10 (could be obsolete model)
Britax Parkway
Britax Star riser (think its obsolete)

So anyone used the Recaro Pro Booster, or Britax Parkway, baring in mind my wife needs to get in the car in the passenger seats, and be comfortable.

Or have I basically bought a car im not going to be able to use for family road trips, which was the whole point in the first place, believe it or not

I used tie downs fastened to bolts placed in the seat belt holes.

My son is 15m old. In the last week or so he has really taken an interest in my project. He is constantly saying "Car,Car" and wants to be taken out to the garage. I hope his interest continues for many years! Too bad it's going to be a while before he can go for a ride.

Pcars and kids

When I got my first Porsche (1988 924S), my son could ride in the rear seat. About 5 years later I got a 911 and he had grown too much to fit in the back. Now the only seat he wants to sit in is the Driver's seat!
