				Way too much rear steer

My 2002 996 is getting even scarier to drive. I live in Florida. Flat, no turns but a few. I'm not a novice and I like a little oversteer but this car is extremely nerve racking when pointing in and still oscillates a bit exiting. I do not use this car for racing or track days. I'm an SCCA racer and this is my fun car, except it's not much fun when it feels as if I have an extra 500 lead bar attached to my rear bumper. Note: last year I jacked the car up to change rear tires and noticed oil dripping on my new asphalt. I jacked from the engine which now I'm told wasn't a good idea. I thought maybe it's me so a visiting friend and fellow racer drove the car. I told him to hold steady at around 65 or 70mph and turn the wheel back and forth gently. He said it felt as if had two really low tires, which it did not. 44psi. Are these motor mounts oil filled. It's been on two lifts and can't seem to find warn parts that keep the rear diff in place. Could warn motor mounts be the culprit? I'm stumped. My old 83 felt a lot better. I also tow with a huge Dodge dually and even that feels more stable. Tom | ||

I changed the rear tires only on my Targa, and it ruined the road feel of the car. Went back to the tire shop a couple days later and bought the fronts. Problem solved!

I'd try asking in the 996 forum: Porsche 996/997/991 Forum - Pelican Parts Technical BBS

Sounds like rear toe out, or perhaps a worn rear suspension bushing somewhere. can you get the back end up in the air and pry on all the joints with a pry bar to see if something deflects excessively under load?

Sounds like the inner edge of your rear tire is corded out. That and/or your rear toe is toe'd out. Should be set at 15-20' toe in each side.
