New project looking for advice how to build it
 

Just picked up this 1980sc at the end of winter for $9000. Looking for advice and or guidance through the build.I'm just looking for a fun driver,should I build it stock? It looks rough in the photo but it has good metal only a few spots of surface rust. My main problem is the PO took it apart labeled nothing and lost a few of the smaller parts. Plan on starting body work soon and I tore the motor down,looks good. Car came with new chain tensioners,ssi exhaust and several other new parts still in boxes. Too early to say if $9k was a good deal or not...
As far as a build I would try to stay close to stock as opposed to expensive upgrades since it is going to be a fun driver. Mild suspension upgrades from ER and RSR may be warranted, and I am sure anything rubber will need to be replaced (bushings, brake and fuel lines, body seals. etc...)

I stripped interior it's in good shape,motor is decent Mahle cylinders et. Thinking about ditching the CIS.

I think you did great for 9k. Looks like a straight, solid body.

If I were in NY I would build it rally style, roll cage, and rally lights and tear up the winter roads, how much fun would that thing be on a frozen lake with studded tires?

If you want, call me and I can go over missing parts with you. I had taken my car completely apart when I brought it home so I am pretty familiar with most of the interiors/exterior parts & pieces. Doesn't look too bad shape...let the fun begin!

I too just bought 1980 sc targa. I paid less, but my engine is completely dissassembled. It looks to be all there, but im kinda lost lol. Anyhow, im building a yellow bird type clone. Doing a coupe conversion and roll cage, putting the car on a diet. I debated going original, but in the end I would of had a car that I wasn't completely in love with. I decided to build what I envision when I think 911. Good luck with your build!!

Tearing down the motor was a piece of cake compared to getting the nuts off the front of the dashboard. Those crazy Germans are gonna cause me hours of frustration. Coupe conversion would be cool but seems like a lot of work.Bob I will give you a call and I spoke with Eric last night gonna go see him soon

I really wanted a coupe myself however I couldn't find one within my budget.

X2 keep it simple, close to stock.

I have been working on this hot rod Targa for a few years, Euro 3.0, lowered, adjustable Koni's, H4's, sport seats.
