Brake warning light help - '80 SC
Hi -
I've decided the warning light has started to bother me. The symptoms are the light stays on all the time when the ignition key is on. I have disconnected and reconnected the battery and the lights comes on as soon as I twist the key. I just tried adjusting the switch and had no luck. I read on here about someone that had to repair the circuit behind the light but I can't seem to get the assembly out. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you disconnected the battery with the ignition on, waited 2 minutes, then turned the key off and reconnected the battery?

Hmm...have you looked at the handbrake switch mechanism? I had to completely disassemble mine. There's a spring on the back of the handbrake handle that can break off. Recommend you take the boot off the handbrake, identify the switch spring (it's riveted on), and verify that it is making positive contact with the connector behind it (wires lead to the connector.) Maybe stick a jumper wire in there and see if you can make the light go off. When I replaced the handbrake switch, it fixed my problem. If you can make the light go out by jimmying the handbrake switch, you may need a new spring. Pelican sells them; you have to rivet it on.
