Toyo Proxes vs. Kumho Ecstas 712?
Anyone willing to offer up any objective opinions on which to select for general road driving, with the odd sprint/hillclimb?
How about performance on wet roads? Al G |

I have the 712's on my '78 SC, which is my summer daily driver, I've been happy with them in both rain and shine. I have about 9000 miles on them, they show little wear and road noise isn't bad. They are, however, a fairly heavy tire; just something to keep in mind. I know nothing about the Toyos's.

Has anyone experienced the BFG g-Force KDW's? I'm shopping for 205/55/16 and 245/45/16. I am really on the fence between these and the Kumho 712's. I'm a highway driver looking for a quiet tire that performs well dry and wet.

I have been using Toyo Proxies RA1 for about three years now and have never had any issues. This past year I raced my 911 in the PRC (Porsche Racing Club) Toyo Cup Challenge, and had a great time. No one in the challenge had any problems and most of us only used one set of tires all year long, even those who started with shaved tires.
The tires were good enough that I suspect they will be the spec tire next year as well. I have not had experience with Kumho's but others had, and in general the comments were favorable for the Toyos. I have also run Toyos on an enduro car, an RX3 and can tell you they will last about 12 hours on the track going non stop (the NASA 12 hour race was done on one set). On Dec 7 we are going to see if one set of scuffed full tread Toyos can last a full 12 hours on a 911....should be fun. On the street, I have always bought a new set right about now, driven them on full tread in the rain here in CA and then driven them hard all summer and had them last until about now.... Jim |

I have a 1970 911E with 16" rims and have 205-55-16 Kumhos. They are great tires for daily driving - I've run over 20k miles on them and figure I can get another 5 before I wind up with slicks at the back. They don't corner as predictably as the Michelins I had before but they are a better rain tire. Certainly good value for money. I can't compare them with the Toyos as I have never driven on them.

I have heard nothing but good things about the Kuhmo's as an everyday tire. This goes for allot of differnet cars that have them installed.

I have the Kumhos on my 930, (225/45/17 and 275/40/17).
On the street I have found them to be durable, quiet and work well in the rain. I had them on the track once, but they were new and my tire pressures were a little low, but they performed reasonably well. If you are using them for an occassional DE then I think they are a good compromise, and for less than $600 for a set for my car, I think it a good deal.
