CA emissions and the EGR valve(cleaning)

Howdy,

I was wondering if anyone has perfected an effective method to cleaning the EGR valve on a CA equipped 3.0L?

We own a 78 SC with a 3.0 and a faulty EGR. I have acquired what appears to be a good used replacement. Since I am about 6 months out from a smog, I have been formulating a game plan for swapping it out.

I have researched a couple of cleaning possibilities, I'm just not sure if these methods are a viable method to cleaning without damaging. Unfortunately, us CA based car owners must pay the piper with regards to the emissions program.

Suggestions, ideas, solutions are welcome.

Cheers
