thanks pelican

i made three separate orders for parts last week, one from pelican, and two from performance products (pelicans was bigger!).

my order confirmation from performance products for 2 sets of screws, etc for the doors told me that my $19 screws were going to cost $20 to send!! bemused at how such a small package can cost so much, and having received no prior notice i emailed them, disgusted.

now i just received the 2nd order from them. i found no invoice enclosed, and the customs slip says the goods were $24 more than i was quoted (these are only $50 items!!).

so i have emailed them yet again. and i have not received a response to the earlier email.

not sure if i'll use them again.

had to vent.

so thank you pelican. my order while not particulary large in value, consisted of lots of small items. everything was present and correct. and the package arrived two days before the performance products one (order same day).

cheers

ok, now i'm getting a tad peeved.

took delivery of two sets of door screws (small packets) this morning. they arrived in a box 6 x 12 x 18!!! for f**k sake.

i got charged $25 customs duties - wtf??

the package weighed 2 llbs - the screws about 4 oz.

so i had paid $18.50 postage.

they put a value on the customs slip of over $40 for the parts - wtf - they cost less than $20.

oh yeah, and no invoice enclosed.

so with customs duties, i paid $65 for screws that were probably overpriced at $20.

i've been screwed.

and they're not replying to email so now i gotta make expensive phone calls...........

performance products ain't getting any more of my hard earned.

lesson learned.

on a positive note i received the package of goodies from vci - for my 930 brake conversion. doug at vci is brilliant to deal with, and i've had nothing but great service....can't wait to fit the stuff.

just a ques...why not drive down to the local porsche dealer to pick up small or easy to obtain items?? 20.00 for 2 screws...sheesh

I feel for the guys across the pond(s) atlantic or pacific...

I drive to pelican chat with some of the guys, pick up parts...

talk about cutomer service...I even drove to wayne's house to borrow a tool....

one thing I hope PP (and by PP I mean pelican of course!!) can develop is have a HUGE inventory of nuts and bolts, washers, screws etc...used on P-cars so if I lose a nut I can just give them the size and get one...

I hate to use inferior pepboys metric stuff on my car...and I hate to buy the $100+ 30000 piece Wurth lock nut set or every metric size imagineable when the porsche engine uses about 2 different sizes...

hahaha late night venting is good....

tim

i know, don't remind, i feel bad enough

interesting to know they'll post.

ordinarily i would send them back, but we're talking across the ocean here.........

i gotta laugh about it.

anyways, it makes me feel better knowing the government got nothing outta me for the brakes screw 'em.

i just gotta put the kit of parts together, buy disks, pads, and rubber pipes to complete. m/c can wait awhile.

i have to rebuild the front calipers, and i'm not sure i'll be able to split them easily.........

Hey Dickster-

(I love saying that) ;-)

I don't think you have to split the calipers to replace the piston seals. I could be wrong though

So, you were expecting a couple little 4oz screws. . .
but got; a 6 x 12 x 18 package!

Wow, that does sound painful.

but at least it was expensive

I've never bought anything from the Perf-guys . . .don't expect I ever will.

Yeah -

The Performance Products guys must make out well on the shipping and handling fees.

I had a 2# part shipped 30 miles UPS ground (box size was about the same as Dickster's). Took a week to show up and cost over $25. I shipped a complete set of 2.2S used pistons and cylinders to Washington once, the receipient paid the shipping but it was under $20 if I recall correctly.

No more orders for that particular PP

A couple of things:

- The owner of Performance Products (know them, actually going to dinner with them next week) once told us that shipping is a profit center for them. We don't look at it that way. Our shipping & handling covers our shipping costs, box costs, and personnel costs for shipping items - you don't pay this if you show up in person...

- Our toll-free number is also TOLL-FREE from Canada. CRAP, we're switching phone providers next Thursday - I forgot to include Canada in our group. Well, it's toll-free until Thursday, and then there will probably be some time when it's not when I have to re set it up again.

- If you ship anything to Canada (from any supplier here in the states), don't use UPS - use US mail (which Performance doesn't offer, I don't think). UPS charges a huge shipping/customs/processing fee. I've told our UPS rep many times that they lose 100% of our Canada business, but they don't seem to care...

no kidding!!!!!

well, i was pissed yesterday so i called them up from the uk. i waited in a queue for 10mins - lots of complaints???

anyways, they can't send stuff in envelopes, items have to go in boxes!! there min. weight is 1llb or US$12!!! wtf?

i was charged for 2 llb weight so the guy said he would refund the diff - US$10.

still cost me US$55. plus the cost of a 15 min international phone call.

i told him they're supposed to email with shipping charges before they send - no comment.

not to mention the high ($40) value they put on the customs slip.........

oh well, back to the boxes of parts i've got to play with.......that'll keep me happy for a while.

Wayne,

Not to defend UPS, I think part of the problem is that it is much easier to mail something into Canada than use a freight company. Having a son-in-law playing in the NFL I can assure you that the paperwork for a shipment to Canada is real interesting in that you have to state the country of manufacture and other such details and then hope the import inspectors don't tear apart the package trying to see if you have anything for which you need to pay additional taxes.

We just sent two boxes to Canada last week via UPS on expedited delivery (> $200 in fees for 65 lbs total) and it still took seven business days. I started tracking and the girations that UPS went through and the various stops the packages took tell me that at least part of the problem is the way Canadian customs treats incoming packages. And this isn't the first time this has happened to us. Don't even talk about FedEx - the costs for this last shipment would have probably been another $100 higher!

Well, until the shipping companies get something done on the border, we will still recommend that all packages be sent through the mail. The costs are about 80% cheaper when you factor in all of those fees. I can't understand how UPS does *any* business across the border...
