I have removed the muffler and sheet metal to expose my timing chain covers so that I can inspect to see why I am hearing the well known noise that will probably tell me that I need to replace my chains.
My question is: Is there going to be a lot of oil that comes out if I pull off the left cover without draining the oil first? Or is there just a small amount of residual oil that will come out? Please answer only if you really know, thanks. By the way, it's a '69 911T with a carb'd 2.0 liter. I love how simple these early cars were designed!

Very little oil loss ... less than a cup for both sides, combined!

That is what I suspected, thanks again Warren, you have helped me and a couple friends of mine out several times.

during my PPI, there was a good splash of oil...
I'd let the engine cool and drain into the sump...and have a turkey roasting pan under the covers before you take it off... good luck |
