UPDATE!! NY/NJ Mountain Run for Nov. 10th

Hey All,

OK, here's the deal:

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 10TH, 2002

Meet will start at the service station by exit 5 on the Palisades Parkway by the NY/NJ Border from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. If you don't know it, you can't miss it....it's actually about 2 miles? once you cross over into New York. You can access it from both North and Southbound lanes, as the station is in the middle of the highway.

There, anyone can gas up and get ready to go. There is a commuter lot on the premises as well, so we can all go there once you arrive. From there, we will proceed North and cross over the Bear Mountain Bridge (bear right afterwards) and then after some nice turns, we'll pull over at the overlook for a short period, then continue our drive. Great twisties. I'll get a map/directions of the course. Speaking of that, does anyone have a copy of our last route? Or, what website was used to obtain it?

For now, it looks like we have around a dozen people committed, including the fellas from the other boards here at Pelican. Perhaps if we got Wayne to show, we'd get 50 or so, ha ha. I did not see a post regarding the drive on Rennlist......could someone put a thread(s) up?

Also, please check in with me via email at jbripps@aol.com to confirm your participation. WIth that, I'll be able to email you the route ahead of time, and it would also let us know how many to expect. Keep your fingers crossed for the good weather. The drive won't take all day, and we'll meet for lunch afterwards at the end of the drive. My cell number is 845-461-3268 if you're running late and want us to hold up for a bit.

regards,

Meet at service station by exit 5 on Palisades Parkway between 10:00 - 10:30 a.m.

Take Palisades Pkwy North to exit 19, Seven Lakes Drive, then Perkins Memorial Drive to mountain top. Would be a good scenic point.

Get back onto Palisades Pkwy East (becomes Rte 6) over Bear Mountain Bridge

North to Bear Mountain-Beacon Hwy (Route 9D). Take 9D through Cold Spring, up to I84 and West back over the Hudson.
Take the next exit (#10), head back South on 9W for 5 miles to 218 (southeast) towards Storm King State Park - becomes "Storm King Highway."

[Optional midway stop at West Point. After West Point, find Main St and go South, which becomes 218.]

218 merges w/9W South - back to Palisades Pkwy then East back over Bear Mountain Bridge. Head South this time after bridge to Bear Mountain Bridge Rd., then 3 miles to Lower South St (Bridge) and 202 (towards Peekskill). Turns into Rte 9 "Briarcliff Peekskill Pkwy" South towards Tarrytown and home.

We could end up at the Horseman Diner right by the Tappan Zee bridge for eats.

Well, that's it in a nutshell. Thank you Sputterbug for coming up with the drive previously.

Here's a more descriptive link of the drive (not exact same though)

http://www.scenicdrivesonline.com/routes/NorthEast/NY/NY_1.shtml

You might want to print that page as it details most of the drive.

ciao and please respond to this thread or email me at jbripps@aol.com if you plan on attending. My cell is 845-461-3268

Hi,

Looks like we've got about 15 of us, but would like to get as many as possible to attend. Anyhow, in order to keep this thread fresh and to keep people updated, please bump it up whenever you can so the information can stay on the first page of threads. (until sunday of course)

thanks so much,

This Looks to be a Really Great Sunday Drive.

I just Finished Reading the Route Description on the Page Link:
http://www.scenicdrivesonline.com/r...t/NY/NY_1.shtml

If the Weather is anything like today we are in for some Fun.

I might note here that Part of the Reason for my Delirium is that I just Had my Driving Privileges (Privilege what a joke) Restored
Yesterday Nov 8th after Battling with the DMV of NJ & the Jersey city Violations Bureau for more then 6 weeks.

Jersey City Claimed I hadn't paid a three year old Ticket & suspended my License.
Fortunately I had my canceled check with the summons # on it.

I can't imagine how long it would have taken if I didn't have Proof.

Anyway I am Mobile again & this Drive is Just what the Dr. Ordered.

Anyone within Shouting Distance should come along & join in the Fun.
