![]() ![]() This is my 1973 911T body #9113101898 with a 1975 2.7L Carrera engine, #6451005. It has an Elephant Racing late Carrera oil cooler, but no Carrera brakes, they are larger I think. Has the RS style duck tail and front dam and RS style door panels. Obviously it does not have matching numbers so originality is not an objective. I've always thought of this car as sort of an RS tribute. Now, would it be Fair or Tacky to mount CARRERA side decals to this car? Thanks, Tom |

What Matt said.
But I don't think Carrera stripes wouldn't look tacky but not right with the cookies. I like cookies and wish they made wider versions. I think removing the Porsche stripes from your car would look good myself. Last edited by drcoastline; 07-04-2015 at 06:22 AM.. |

Just ordered a RS ducktail for the 3.2, not the original lid but it makes me smile. And thats the point of these cars!

If it were me I would save my money and put some different fuchs on that beautiful car instead...but you should do what you like. IMHO, CARRERA script would add noting and be a bit tacky.

Might want to put a "TURBO" plate on the rear deck while you are at it.

It's your car, do what you feel happy with. Having said that I like the Porsche script as it is.

Well...you had the idea for a reason. There are many things you could put on the car which anyone with any taste would reject but the Carrera side sticker is barely one of them. If put in place where the Porsche sticker is it would be better than a unicorn or a real estate slogan. Its a good second choice compared to all the sticker options available with script. Some folks like rally stripes and geo designs. Others might like nothing. The Carrera signage would keep inline with the era. I wouldn't think it was tacky compared to anything else of the time. There is a place for everything in a particular time.

As others said - its your car - do what you think looks good! I had the same debate and ended up going with the carrera script. After doing it, I must say, I really enjoy the contrast it provides. I think the majority of Porsche owners with not be in favor of the project I did with my own car - but I'm loving it

Thanks for all the well-considered feedback (excepting the recommendation about applying "Turbo" script!!
![]() I'll think about it for a while; have a couple more urgent projects to spend my meager gold supply upon: oil leaks; fresh air doesn't work, a little loosey-goosey in steering and that damn, never-ending alternator light! Best, Tom |

Actually the fact that it has a 2.7 does bring it a bit closer to a Carrera. Its doesn't have the rear wheel flares to set it apart but how many folks know that the Carreras only had flares which yours doesn't or that 72-73 came in T, E and S versions along with the RS Carrera (F series 73) anyway ?
I say do it!

When I was young, maybe 24, I had a new '83SC coupe that I had modified somewhat to make it a little faster. I'd read all of the Porsche books of that era and taken notice of all of the references to the origins of the 911SC nomenclature. I justified in my mind that an SC was really a Carrera, more or less, so I added a Carrera badge to the tail. I drove that car for a few years, then sold it and bought a new turbo, after returning the car back to stock.
30 years later, I look back and my current persepctive is that I would not do that again. An SC isn't a Carrera and I probably just sounded like an idiot to older Porsche owners when I justified my little change in badging. All this to say that, if you ask the question, you may have the same thoughts. My advice would be to not add the Carrera decals. One, it's not a Carrera. Two, I agree that the wheels on the car also add to the decision. A Carrera was a high performance version of the 911 and didn't generally come with the cheaper wheels. Nothing wrong with the wheels, per se, they just don't fit with the decal. Third, I think your car would look best with no graphics at all. JR |

I hope you realize the "turbo" script was an attempt to make a point...and give an honest answer to your question. Your car is no more a Carrera because it has a late model carrera oil cooler and a 2.7 engine than it is a turbo. I assumed you asked what would be considered "tacky" by some folks because you actually cared what others thought...and being considered"tacky" would not "make you smile". If you did not want honest feedback...then that is fine. Obviously, you should do what you want and what makes you happy. At the same time, if some people laughing at you or scratching their head at the script would make you unhappy...you should know that would likely be the case.
You have a beautiful if not iconic car already... that anyone would be proud of. Many folks with an actual, late model Carrera would kill for your car. It is like taking off the checkered flag symbol off an early Corvette and adding a Chevy Volt script. IMHO, it would look better with no script whatsoever and wanting to add a Carrera script makes me scratch my head...but it is your car. Have a nice holiday!

If it were my car I would remove the Porsche sticker and call it done. I like that sticker on the early cars where they were most common. And I agree with others about the Carrera sticker, I wouldn't put it on my own car unless I had added flares and was trying to build a replica. Stickers and badges are the last thing to go into a replica or tribute car, imo.

I'll agree with the plurality of opinions that adding a Carrera script to my car would not be genuine and would be tacky even though the engine lists as a Carrera type for that year in the Red Book. So that project is off my plate. I'll also consider removing the side Porsche decals if it doesn't hurt my paint. Flintstone also posted earlier that I should replace the Cookie Cutters with some 'different' Fuchs wheels. That's a good idea. But genuine Fuchs wheels in my size are very hard to find and even more expensive when you do. I noticed on our favorite bidding site some good looking imitation Fuchs wheels at an attractive price from a guy with 100% feedback. Anybody have any dealings with them? And your thoughts about this approach. Thanks for all your suggestions. Tom |
