OT: Cam lock or Latch belts
I am interested in your opinions on cam lock belts vs. latch type.
I would like to set up a 3 point belt for every day use, using a lap belt and a single shoulder belt. With the latch type it looks like each belt releases when you undo the latch. If using a cam belt, can you just undo the inside portion of the lap belt when releasing the cam? (in order to function like a normal three point belt) Or will all belts release when the cam is released? I looked at many manufacturers sites and couldn't figure this out. Thank you, Jason Last edited by jbmccandless; 11-10-2002 at 02:21 PM.. |

This bit just doesn't seem safe to me:
"I would like to set up a 3 point belt for every day use, using a lap belt and a single shoulder belt. " Wouldn't you need a diagonal shoulder belt to provide adequate protection???

Possibly
I agree with your statement.
Let me clarify, this is for a 356, and currently, I have a non-retractable 3 point setup and looking or more support. I've checked with the 356 list, mostly they upgrade to 3 point retractable setups. My thought was that if you lengthen the outside lap belt, and shorten the inside belt, you could shift the buckle off centered toward the center of the car. I suppose this would give more across the chest support, but having to playing around with the manufacturers design too much does concern me. I thought of a 4 point, Y style shoulder mount, but I do not have a mount point straight back. Currently, the shoulder mount is on the outside interior wall. Maybe I'll have to wait to install a rollbar, and go 4 point on a cross bar. Jason |
