Saturday morning with a 917K

Our local PCA had a tech session this morning at a vintage racing company. Here is a picture of the star attraction. They fired it up a couple of time for us....wow! what a sound!

I wish Porsche would build a LeMans winning MONSTER like that again sometime.. boy we all seem to have fond memories of that thing huh..... It makes me sad, to know Porsche may never strike fear into others the way they did back then...
Oh well I guess I'll take my SC and go beat on some Hondas, maybe a Toyota or two.. I'll still scare them .. (maybe) I WISH I COULD SEE THAT RACING FOR REAL AGAIN!! thanks for the pic.. were you able to sit in it????

I didn't ask to sit in it but I don't think that was an option. I don't think I could have squeezed into it anyway.
Here's a couple of other shots.

Now that's what I call a Tech session!

I can't remember the serial number for that 917 but I think I saw it at Laguna for the 50th anniversary celebration in '98.

They let me sit in #004 briefly. The 910 was also very cool. Here I am pretending to be Steve McQueen...

Don - Do you know the chassis number of the 917 at your PCA meeting ??

Looks like it's recently been re-painted so is possibly Dickie Attwoods car as he re-painted it in Gulf colours to increase its value (from the Salzburg Red & White) - chassis 917.022

Or could be chassis 917.015 , the Gunnar car ??

Nice photo Randy - 917.004 is the Bruce McCaw car.

Sitting in a 917 was what first inspired my passion in the car, as I've got a photo of me aged about 10 smiling from ear to ear in someones 917.... can't say who as they don't know as the car was borrowed for an event !!!

Aaaaaaaaah, 917.....

The 917 that Otis Chandler owned was the Steve McQueen/LeMans movie car. I was told that Otis Chandler asked Porsche (?) for permission to change the # to #1. When he sold it, it went up north to a group in Washington. I saw it run at the Historics about 10 years ago. Possibly, this is the same car?? Just wondering....
