Where to get windshield?

Ok cracked windshield and I already have a NOS Porsche seal so I just want to do the job myself. Where to purchase the windshield? dealer? Are there different brands and quality? Prices?

Thanks for help.

The Sekurit brand comes up for sale in the parts section semi-regularly. Do a search and/or post a WTB thread.

Stoddard Porsche

They are in Ohio.

Our local Chevrolet dealer prep shop had one in stock (small town in Montana!!) and I imagine that Safelite and other shops should have one. Sekurit might take special order.

I had mine installed for around $250 including labor and I supplied the Porsche front seal from our sponsor.

I got a replacement from SafeLite for under $120 picked up from them locally.

I'll check with my local Safelite but anyone know if they sell a branded part like Sekurit or is their own private label. Anyone have any issues with off brand?

I'm not proud, did a ppg. @ $80. So nice to get rid of the pitted one. Fit/install was fine. No gaps.

Don't know if Safelite sells Sekurit, but they surely can order one.

My Brand X from the Chevy dealer was a perfect fit with no leaks or problems. It did have a smoked area at the top that would probably drive concours folks over a cliff, but looks nice to me!!

Although it's nice to have a Sigla or Sekurit windshield, not necessary unless you show your car. Windshields are, to me , a disposable product, like brake pads, windshield wipers etc. So if the optical quality is good go for the best price.
Check for rust around the edges of your frame and repair or you'll be sorry later.

So you guys are just buying from a local glass shop?

Thanks

Jesse16 06-15-2015 05:28 AM

My local non-branded glass shop got me a Sekurit (the only one their computer offered) shipped in and installed for $350 inside at their place. I would have done myself but had too much going on. Surely less to just pick-up.

TheSt|G 06-15-2015 05:49 AM

Definitely would stick to Sekurit and the Porsche OE seal.

Safelite is pure Chinesium, and the windshield is a huge determinant of rust/torsional rigidity/safety.

SafeLite had windshield for my 88 911 in stock, no problem !

No issues with mine. It has an "FY" logo. No idea what brand that is.

XYG and FYG(FY) are all straight China.

Any suggestions for a place to get Sekurit in the greater Philadelphia area?

I'm up near Quakertown and I can check with the local guys.

I'll likely swap mine myself - I need to do the dash and headliner, so I'm planning to change all of the glass seals.

Depending on your insurance, they might pay for new windshields as a safety item. From there it's just a matter of taking it to the right shop(like Performance Automotive Service in Malvern, PA near you), and getting them to do it with OE glass. Might take a bit of back and forth with the insurance company, but I'm yet to not succeed in the end.

I had my 1985 replaced with a OEM Sigla with the antenna in the windshield. It was done at a local shop. It is very likely you will want a new seal. Get a Porsche OEM seal. Don't use the aftermarket seal.

Talk to Richard from Pro Source Glass. He advertises regularly in the classifieds. he will crate and ship the correct windshield form MA and prices are very good. I would not consider anything else. I would get the OEM seal form our host.

About a year ago I had a chip fixed by safelite and I asked about a sekurit window. The guy looked it up on his computer and they had them in stock. I would call and ask and if you have a crack it should be covered under your insurance.
